MC holds grand opening

ST. CLAIRSVILLE The official grand opening of MC Sports is set for Thursday at its new location adjacent to Sears inside the Ohio Valley Mall.

Founded in 1946 in Grand Rapids, Mich., MC Sports operates 74 stores across the Midwest, with the St. Clairsville store serving as its eastern flank.

Built on a foundation of service, family, convenience and integrity, MC Sports is committed to offering quality, top-name sports gear at competitive prices.

Store manager Todd Moore noted that customer response since the store’s soft opening in early August has been positive.

“We’re pretty pleased with the turnout we’ve received,” Moore said. “From the foot traffic and feedback, everyone has commented on how nice the store is and how excited they are for us to be here.

“There is nothing like this in the immediate area.”

There are a few sporting goods stories in the Wheeling-St. Clairsville Interstate 70 corridor, there are none that match MC Sports in size, scale and selection.

Featuring 23,000 feet of retail space, MC Sports offers a full range of gear for nearly every sport, including baseball, football, basketball, golf, tennis, hunting, camping and fishing. In addition, MC Sports features an extensive selection of health, fitness and exercise equipment and athletic footwear.

Moore noted the outdoor department is a key fixture to the store.

“We carry rifles and hand guns and a full line of archery equipment,” Moore said. “That is a focus area for this store. When our customers come in, they can count on knowledgeable MC Sports staff members in those areas that can answer any and all outdoor questions.

“We feel that sets us apart from the competition.”

MC Sports will offer all popular regional professional and collegiate sports teams, as well as local high school apparel.

“We are still working with the reps the schools use but we’ll try to offer as many local schools as we can,” Monroe said. “We also offer a lot of colors, so if we don’t carry the particular school yet, we’ll at least have the colors.”

There is a community component to MC Sports business philosophy. It works to give back to the surrounding area through team sponsorships, fundraising programs, team discounts and a long-standing commitment to the Children’s Miracle Network.

MC Sports also will go out of its way to accommodate the needs of local teams.

Moore gave the example of a local coach needing to get his entire team outfitted with shoes.

“We can even host a team night, for example, if a team needs to get fitted for shoes, we can go to their practice, get the entire team fitted and place the order for them,” Moore said. “Then someone only has to come in and pick up the shoes. We make it easy for them.”

MC Sports will be offering giveaways all throughout the grand opening weekend, with the first 100 customers through the door taking part.

The store is also registering customers to win gift cards that will be drawn in September.

Thursday, WOVK will set up a remote broadcast inside the store. Friday’s paper will feature MC Sports’ ad, detailing all the grand opening prices that will be in effect for the weekend.

“We are excited to be here and are ready to serve the community,” Moore added. “We look forward to a long and ongoing relationship with our customers and the community.”

MC Sports is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m.; Sundays from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m.
