Shadyside school enrollment on the rise
SHADYSIDE – Enrollment in the Shadyside Local School District has taken a huge leap in the last few months.
According to district principals Cynthia Caldwell and Buddy Tucker, the elementary school and middle school classes now have more than 60 in each class. There are several children still on the waiting list.
According to District Superintendent and High School Principal John Haswell, there are 86 students coming from Switzerland of Ohio Local School District.
The third grade will move from Jefferson Middle School to Leona this year.
The Shadyside Local School District will hold a stakeholders meeting tonight at 7 o-clock in the Shadyside High School band room. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the levy that will be on this November’s ballot.
This will be the first of several levy-related meetings.
Haswell is also planning communities meeting as well.
Caldwell, Jefferson Elementary principal, proposed a new aide position. There are currently three kindergarten students who need extra help and having the aide would help.
The position would be for six hours a day. Before, students who needed an aide went to the ESC program in Bellaire and Shadyside paid for it.
“We have a lot to take care of this year,” said Haswell.
