Bellaire to host meet the candidate night
BELLAIRE – Voters in Bellaire have a number of decisions to make this November election.
From the mayor to village council, even another chance to cast a yea or nay vote on the school levy issue, a lot will be determined in little less than two months.
In effort to help with the decision making process, the Bellaire Area Chamber of Commerce is again hosting a meet the candidates night.
The event is slated for Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. inside the community room at the Bellaire Library.
The format will be similar to previous meet the candidate evenings as each candidate will be given approximately two minutes to make an opening statement.
After all have been afforded an opportunity to speak, candidates will field written questions from the audience.
Last year, when the Belmont County Sheriff’s Office, Western Division Court Judge and Belmont County Commissioner races took center stage.
This time, the candidates are more localized to the Bellaire community.
First, there is the race for mayor, with incumbent Vince DiFabrizio in a three-man race with former council member Rickie Parker and Dan Brown.
Then, there is the race for four council seats.
Current council members Jim Williams and Josh Meyer are seeking re-election. They are being challenged by Vondi Cetorelli, Bob Koteles, Donny Maupin and Nancy Raeder.
The top four vote geters will find a seat on council.
Also invited to the meet the candidates night are the members in the race for Pultney Township Trustees.
Incumbents Frank Shaffer and Jakes Tekely are up against Scott Porter, with the top two obtaining a seat.
Rounding out the evening, Bellaire Schools Superintendent Tony Scott will be on hand to discuss the school levy.
Chamber officials estimate that last November, roughly 60 people turned out for the event. Given the more localized slate of candidates, that number is sure to grow.
