Ferry swears in new officers

MARTINS FERRY – Martins Ferry Police Department swore in two new officers, Keven Yates and Cody Moore, on Friday.

They will serve as part-time officers.

Yates has been a police officer for the last six years and is currently working full-time with the Bridgeport Police Department.

“I became a police officer because it runs in my family; my father, my grandfather is a retired Bellaire officer,” Yates said. “I applied at Martins Ferry because its a good department and I like the guys. I’ve worked with them while working at Bridgeport, they are a good group of guys.”

Being a police officer also runs in Moore’s family as well.

Moore has been an officer for a year and has worked in several smaller departments in the valley.

“I am just trying to get my career started, working in several places trying to find a good department to work for,” Moore said.

“I want to start working for an actual, real police department … Hoping here I can be apart of a good police department and get more experience.”
