Former Ferry water employee charged
MARTINS FERRY – Holly Dalton, a former employee at the Martins Ferry Water Department, has been charged with theft in office, which is a third degree felony.
According to City Solicitor Dan Fry, Dalton allegedly took more then $35,000. The maximum sentence is 36 months of incarceration and a $10,000 fine.
The stolen money was discovered after the state completed an extensive investigation over the years encompassing 2010 to April of 2013.
Fry filed the charges on Friday, Nov. 15.
If Dalton is found guilty, she will not be allowed to hold a public office.
“This individual resigned from her job in the utility office several months ago and we filled that position through the union bidding process, which is our standard operating procedure,” said Martins Ferry Mayor Paul Riethmiller. “At this time, everything has been turned over to the Belmont County Prosecutor’s office. Any further comments will need to come from that office.”
Dalton has worked for the city of Martins Ferry since 2006.
