Fregiato court session features drug cases
ST. CLAIRSVILLE – Numerous drug-related charges were heard and two trials were set during Tuesday’s session of Belmont County Common Pleas Court. Judge Frank Fregiato presided.
Roger A Runner, 46, 507 Clinton St., Martins Ferry, will go to trial Dec. 5 after Judge John M. Solovan II turned down a motion to suppress results of a search warrant. He is accused of illegal assembly/possession of ingredients for the manufacture of drugs, a felony of the third degree occurring June 6, 2013.
David Michael Sexton, 28, 26 Lincoln Avenue, Benwood, was sentenced to 12 months in the penitentiary with credit for 88 days for possession of drugs, a felony of the fifth degree occurring Nov. 19, 2010. Prosecution noted Sexton’s repeated violations and failure to make his court days and probation meetings despite having been given treatment in lieu of conviction.
Defense asked Fregiato to consider Sexton’s serious drug addiction issues.
Fregiato gave Sexton the maximum sentence. He said he is not opposed to future sentencing modifications. Treatment and counseling was ordered.
“This is not the outcome we seek,” he said. “If your counseling doesn’t work, this is the result that’s going to occur.”
Samantha Colleen Hughes, 20, 141 Main St., Mt. Pleasant, pleaded guilty to trafficking in drugs in the vicinity of a juvenile, a felony of the third degree occurring March 5, 2013. Sentence was set for Dec. 23. A pre-sentence investigation was ordered.
Luke Aaron Kovalyk, 25, 64778 Sand Hill Road, Bellaire, pleaded guilty to possession of drugs, a felony of the fifth degree occurring Sept. 21, 2013. Sentence was set for Nov. 25.
Tanner David Meek, 21, 63087 Toad Hollow Road, Bellaire, pleaded guilty to possession of drugs, a felony of the fourth degree occurring Sept. 25, 2013. Sentence was set for Nov. 25.
David Fields, 35, incarcerated, pleaded guilty to conveying drugs onto a detention facility, a felony of the third degree occurring Nov. 14, 2012, and was given a sentence of one year in the penitentiary, to run consecutive to his current sentence.
Cody West Williams, 22, 71868 Gas Station Shippy Road, St. Clairsville, will go to trial Dec. 3. He is charged with burglary, theft and two counts of receiving stolen property.
Randy Neil Wheeler Jr., 27, 68378 Marcellus Avenue, Bridgeport, was arraigned and pleaded not guilty to a firearms specification, a felony occurring Sept. 6, 2013. Pre-trial was set for Nov. 25, plea agreement was set for Dec. 23 and trial Jan. 23. Bond was set at $35,000.
Cindy Diane Vanscyoc, 44, 13 Simpson Avenue, Moundsville, was arraigned and pleaded not guilty to illegal conveyance of drugs onto a detention facility, a felony of the third degree. Pre-trial was set for Nov. 25, with plea agreement deadline Dec. 23 and trial Jan. 28. She will be held without bond.
A warrant was issued for Chad Robert Houston, 38, 116 Oak St., Bethesda.
