United Way nears halfway point
The 2013-14 Campaign for the United Way of the Upper Ohio Valley is approaching the half-way point toward goal, it was announced today during the meeting of the Campaign Cabinet. The Campaign total to date is $328,703, or 42.26 percent.
Jim Rock of Axiall, Campaign Chair, and Kristie Barnett of WesBanco, Campaign Vice Chair, each said they are pleased with the campaign progress, but said now is the time for potential donors to join the effort to reach the goal of $777,777.
“When you consider that 99 cents of each dollar donated stays right here in the Upper Ohio Valley, that means that donations are able to improve the quality of life here by meeting basic needs, improving health, and education,” Rock said.
In January, the all-volunteer Allocation Panels will begin meeting with the United Way member agencies to determine how the campaign proceeds will be granted to each United Way agency.
The division totals reported by the Cabinet members are: Major Firms I, $78,909, or 33.5 percent of goal; Local Business, $124,078, or 54 percent of goal; Public Service, $23,453, or 36 percent of goal; Special Accounts, $29,696, or 42 percent of goal; Professional, $9,638, or 32 percent of goal; Community Development, $7,139, or 20
percent of goal; Brooke County, $13,789, or 55 percent of goal; special events, $34.022, or 58 percent of goal.
