Bridgeport blaze battled
BRIDGEPORT – The Bridgeport Fire Department received a call Thursday afternoon that Ideal Home Health Care was on fire.
There were no injures as a smoke alarm alerted the employees, shortly after 1 p.m.
“Right now, we are still in the overall stages of the fire investigation. We have not determined anything yet. The call came in as a fire in the closet,” said Assistant Fire Chief Mel Roth.
The first crews on scene were met by heavy smoke and some fire.
According to Roth, it appears the fire extended up into the ceiling.
“The first building (Ideal Home Health Care) has a lot of heat and smoke damage. The second building (Spoiled Rott’n) has a lot of smoke and heat damage in it and we believe that the chiropractor ‘s office just has some damage at this time,” said Roth. “The knockdown was fairly quick … But with the heat in there, checking for extensions. When you have mutiple tenants here, we have to make sure we check them all.”
The cause of the fire is still undetermined. The Martins Ferry Fire Department and The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services were both on scene along with AEP.
