Cadiz council swears in newest member

CADIZ – Village council held a short meeting on Monday afternoon to swear in three returning members and one new member for 2014. Larry Sickle, Terry Capers, and Dan Ossman were re-elected to their posts, while Jim Drexler was elected the newest member of council. All four council members recited a pledge at the beginning of the meeting.

The council also voted to establish Curt Crawshaw as president.

Council voted to finalize an agreement with Kokosing Water, LLC to sell excess water. Kokosing works to address the high demand for water in the natural gas production industry, and also works to develop infrastructure for raw water delivery and manage marketing and sales of water resources.

Water will be delivered via pipes along the High St. extension to a location on Toot Rd. (also known as Dog Pound Rd.). The agreement will benefit the village by bringing in revenue for the water department, which will most likely be used to pay off existing loans.

The agreement contains a stipulation that the council may halt the water use if it becomes necessary for village use, i.e. in the event of a drought or if the water supply dips too low, though Solicitor Costa Mastros stated the excess water has not been used by the village for approximately nine to ten years. Meter reading will be done by a third-party company hired by Hess Energy, which will also provide temporary infrastructure. The water use is not expected to interrupt traffic flow.

Dates were set for the next two council meetings: Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. and Jan. 23 at 7 p.m.
