Family Service picnic slated
WHEELING – The mission of Family Service-Upper Ohio Valley is to provide human services designed to enable families and individuals of all ages to deal successfully with continuing changes and challenges that occur throughout the family life cycle.
In support of that, the 43rd annual Family Service-Upper Ohio Valley Senior Citizens Picnic will be held Thursday, June 19 at the Wheeling Park Ice Rink.
The event gets under way with a 2-person, 9-hole golf scramble at 9 a.m., but the official opening begins at noon with a hot dog luncheon and live entertainment by “Sentimental Journey” and Martins Ferry’s own Matt VanFossen, an up-and-coming country superstar.
Throughout the day there will be activities such as free bingo, exhibits and door prize drawings. Also, those attending will have full use of the park’s amenities, such as miniature golf, swimming and paddle boating free of charge.
A catered dinner will be held at 5 p.m. followed by an evening of dancing will local favorite “Twice As Nice.”
Tickets are $5 and can be purchased in advance only. They are available at the Senior Center Activities Desk located on the second floor of the HRC Building at 51 11th St., Wheeling. Deadline to purchase tickets is Friday, June 13.
