Police partner with youth group
MARTINS FERRY – The First Presbyterian Youth Group will hold a dodge ball tournament to help raise money to send kids to summer camp.
The youth group is working with the Martins Ferry Police Department.
This is the first year for the dodgeball tournament. It will be held May 24 at the rec center. The tournament will start at 2 p.m. and lunch will be served at 1 p.m. Admission is $2 at the door.
There can be six to eight members on a team. All members must be age 12 and up. It is $12 to register, which includes lunch. Deadline to register is May 17 and the fee will $15 after May 22.
This started when Jennifer Vickers, the youth director for the last two years, was talking with Martins Ferry Police Chief John McFarland about something that will bring the children and police department together.
“I want the children to have a better relationship with us,” said McFarland. “They are the future of this town.”
The police department will have a dodge ball team
“The police department has a lot to offer us,” said Vickers. “This is a win-win situation and I hop we can break the cycle.”
