AAA9 receives grant
Many seniors struggle to pay their Medicare premiums, deductibles and co-pays; still many aren’t aware that they may qualify for help in covering those expenses. The Area Agency on Aging Region 9 (AAA9) received a grant from the Ohio Department of Aging to help older adults apply for extra help through Social Security’s Extra Help Program. The grant is part of the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act (MIPPA).
Couples and individuals can have a significant income and assets and still be eligible for help. The yearly income limit for an individual $17,235; for a married couple it is $23,265.
Resource limit for an individual is $13,300; for a married couple living together it is $26,580. By applying for these benefits, seniors may qualify for significant savings with their Medicare Part D premiums, deductibles and co-pays.
Additionally, Medicare covers an extensive range of services to prevent, detect, and manage diseases so complications can be avoided.
It is important to utilize Medicare preventative services and screenings to ensure a healthier and longer life. Further information regarding preventative and wellness benefits can be viewed on the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid website.
The grant concludes at the end of September 2014, and the Social Security Administration indicates that many older adults who are eligible for the program have not yet applied. For an application or to speak with someone about the assistance please contact AAA9 at (800) 945-4250 or locally at (740) 435-4904. There is no cost to apply.
