Fregiato holds court, hands down sentences

ST. CLAIRSVILLE Several cases were heard during Monday’s session of Belmont County Common Pleas Court. Judge Frank Fregiato presided.

John J. Worley, 57, incarcerated, saw his sentence modified and himself designated a sexual predator. He was convicted of sexual battery of a two-year-old, a felony of the second degree occurring in 2007. Prosecution noted the violation of trust of the family and child and the young age of the victim.

In addition, his court costs were waived and he was given credit for 28 days.

Thomas Michael Verhovec, 36, 61180 Washington St., Jacobsburg, was sentenced for assault of a police officer, a felony of the fourth degree occurring July 31, 2013. He was sentenced to 18 months in the penitentiary, with six months suspended for a total of 12 months. Credit for time served. Fregiato noted that Verhovec was extremely intoxicated at the time, with further aggravating factors including the ferocity of the altercation, the number of officers required to subdue Verhovec, and that he was on probation at the time.

“You get drunk, you’re responsible for what you do,” Fregiato said.

Barbara Ann Tittle, 40, incarcerated, admitted to violating her probation. She was sentenced to six months in prison with three years of post release controls. She was originally convicted of permitting child abuse, a felony of the third degree occurring March 1, 2010.

Nena Dillon, 27, 52029 State Route 800, Malaga, was sentenced for theft, a felony of the fourth degree occurring Aug. 6, 2013. She was given six months jail, six months EOCC.
