Gas station worker jailed

A Bridgeport man who claimed the gas station where he was employed as an attendant was robbed on June 13 may have done the stealing himself.

David L. Peach, 21, of 54492 Farr Road, Bridgeport, is being held in the Belmont County Jail on charges of conspiracy and inducing panic. His bond was set at $17,500.

According to information from the Belmont County Sheriff’s Office, Peach called 911 on Friday, June 13, and said the Clark Gas Station at 54570 National Road, west of Bridgeport, was the victim of an armed robbery.

Peach told police he had been robbed by a medium-build man about six feet tall and weighing about 200-220 pounds. He said the suspect was wearing a mask and dressed in black clothing. He said he last saw the man heading to a wooded area behind the station.

Authorities are now saying that Peach’s claims may not be true. Sheriff David Lucas said he believes Peach wasn’t the only person involved and further arrests may come soon.
