UL Superintendent Arrested

Union Local School Superintendent Douglas Thoburn, 53, was arrested by Belmont County authorities Thursday afternoon, according to a statement released by Belmont County Sheriff David Lucas.

Thoburn was arrested on four charges of pandering obscenity involving a minor. He was taken into custody after authorities served a search warrant at his home in Belmont.

Deputies received a complaint, regarding alleged misconduct and began investigating Thoburn.

According to the press release, authorities with the Belmont County Department of Job and Family Services, as well as agents with the Ohio Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) Crimes Against Children Unit and Cyber Crimes Unit assisted in the investigation.

The release also says that school officials are and will be cooperative during the course of the investigation, which remains ongoing.

Thoburn is currently in custody and the case will be handled by the Belmont County Prosecutor’s Office.
