Ferry offices closed Monday

MARTINS FERRY Customers, on Monday, Sept. 1, Labor Day, all our offices will be closed due to the holiday. No trash service on Monday, but will be picked up on Tuesday as well as Tuesday’s normal schedule. If necessary, it will be finished on Wednesday.

Mead trustees meet today

KEY The Mead Township Trustees have announced they will hold a special meeting today, as well as changing the time for their regularly scheduled meeting on Sept. 1.

The special meeting will be held at 6 p.m. for the trustees to review current and proposed RUMA (Road Use Maintenance Agreements) with various natural gas companies building or proposing the build gas wells within the townships, as well as other companies installing or proposing to install gas transmission lines in the township.

In regard to the regularly scheduled meeting on Sept. 1, the trustees have moved the starting time from 6 to 7 p.m. for only that meeting.

The Shadyside Local School District Board of Education held a brief meeting on Wednesday.

Personnel matters were discussed, and Jim Miller was approved as a substitute bus driver for the upcoming school year, while Jeff Campbell was approved as a substitute teacher for general education.

OVI checkpoint planned

THE Ohio State Highway Patrol will operate an OVI checkpoint this week to deter and intercept impaired drivers.

The county where the checkpoint will take place will be announced the day prior to the checkpoint, and the location will be announced the morning of the checkpoint.

If you plan to consume alcohol, designate a driver or make other travel arrangements before you drink. Don’t let another life be lost for the senseless and selfish act of getting behind the wheel impaired.

Operational support for the sobriety checkpoint will be provided by local law enforcement agencies.

Sand Hill Road open

BELMONT COUNTY Road 4, Sand Hill Road, is open to all traffic as of 3 p.m. on Tuesday. The road was closed for a bridge replacement project at the intersection of Ohio 149 near Neffs.

Benefit dinner slated Friday

A SPAGHETTI dinner to benefit The Anita Curry Leukemia Fund is scheduled Friday from 4:30-7 p.m. at the East Richland Evangelical Friends Church, fireside room/social room.

Curry, who is in her early 40s, has gone through two huge doses of chemotherapy. She then had a heart attack and two open heart surgeries. She has two sons attending Ohio University Eastern and a son home-schooled going into the 3rd grade. Everyone is welcome to attend the dinner.

Galaxy show on tap at Barkcamp

US 250 ramp work slated

EFFECTIVE Monday and Tuesday, the US 250 north on ramp to I-70 eastbound in Ohio County will be closed daily from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. to perform bridge inspection.

The West Virginia Division of Highways advises motorists traveling to I-70 east in this area should continue on US 250 to McColloch Street Exit to US 40 east and back to I-70 east.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time for alternate routes.

Jefferson Graham Road to close

JEFFERSON COUNTY Road 18 Graham Road, will be closed for a slip repair project on Monday Aug., 4 through Friday, Aug. 8, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. The road will be closed 0.2 miles north of Jefferson County Road 17 Rush Run Road. There will be no through traffic at that point.

MF flag football signups underway

THE MARTINS Ferry Park District will have flag football sign-ups for grades 1 through 6, beginning today and until Sept. 2 from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. at the Martins Ferry recreation center.

NRAC meeting planned
