Commissioners support reserve

ST. CLAIRSVILLE – Commissioners signed a statement of support for the Guard and Reserve during their past meeting. John DeBonis, Eastern Regional Director for Employers Support of the Guard and Reserve, spoke about the organization, pointing out that the Guard includes 50 percent of the active duty force. Small employers have been inundated with cases of Guard employees called out to service. Often, Guard members had no job awaiting them on returning.

His organization works with employers and Guard employees to resolve such issues.

He thanked the commissioners for their support.

“You don’t realize what an important role you all play in supporting these men and women in uniform who are protecting our freedoms, which are in peril today,” he said.

Commissioners noted the importance of promoting understanding of the Guard’s role in preserving national security. They pledged to honor and enforce the Uniform Services Employment and Re-employment Rights Act and to provide managers and supervisors with necessary tools to manage employees who serve in the guard. They also noted the skills those employees bring.

Commissioners said they were honored at the chance to help.
