More Buckeye Local OAPSE talks set Thursday
Dillonvale – A special meeting is now set for Thursday at 7 p.m. at the administrative offices in Dillonvale, allowing dialogue between union leadership representing 85 non-certified school district employees and representatives of the Buckeye Local School District to continue, despite a looming strike deadline of 12:01 a.m., Monday, Aug. 25.
At Monday’s regular board meeting, conversations held behind closed door in an executive session apparently prompted the scheduling of the additional special meeting of the board.
The 85 non-certified employees in the district are represented by the Ohio Association of Public School Employees (OAPSE Local 373).
Union officials for Local 373 are expected to hold conversations with members between now and then, allowing for the most current position of the union members to be reaffirmed as the timetable quickly heads toward the announced strike deadline, at this point, unabated.
No formal actions were taken at Monday’s meeting to begin establishing formal access to any out of district personnel resources despite the original agenda of meeting having included basic information on a vendor specializing in provide access to personnel for businesses impacted by strikes.
In fact, after emerging from the executive session Monday, not only was the special meeting scheduled for Thursday, but a resolution that if enacted would have begun a strike staffing agreement with a firm in Michigan was formally removed from the agenda.
It is known a membership meeting of OAPSE Local 373 was held Monday prior to the school board’s meeting, but official details of the business conducted at the meeting was not entered into the school board’s official minutes.
Board members are also expected to discuss other unfinished business at Thursday’s special meeting, including details of any potential security related personnel matters.
Reasons offered for the record concerning why the special board meeting is needed Thursday reflected the same exact language used to qualify calling for it during Monday’s meeting: “for the purpose of reviewing negotiations, employment, dismissal, discipline, compensation of personnel, conference with the Board’s attorney and security arrangements.”
