OVFM featuring quality produce

As the market season reaches its peak, shoppers will find a great selection of produce and other locally produced foods at the Ohio Valley Farmers’ Market this week. The OVFM operates on Thursday from 3-6 p.m. at the Bel-Morr Market at exit 208 Belmont/Morristown and on Saturday from 9 a.m. noon at 32nd Street in Bellaire.

Shoppers will find a vast assortment of tomatoes as well as hot and sweet peppers, potatoes, green and purple beans, garlic, onions, okra, Swiss chard, summer squash, fresh herbs, blueberries, blackberries, eggplant, and more.

There will also be pasture-raised meats and eggs, jams, jellies, pickled vegetables, dried herbs, fresh baked goods including granola, sourdough bread, sweet breads, cookies, and pies, Ohio maple syrup, honey, organic teas, Hilltop coffees, gourmet popcorn, personal care products made with essential oils and beautiful fresh-cut flowers.

Local crafters offer handmade soaps, needlework, and hand-painted items.

At the market tent, shoppers can enjoy the opportunity to sample at least a dozen different varieties of tomatoes. There will be fresh-brewed coffee and granola samples as well.

The OVFM accepts USDA SNAP benefits.

The Kids’ Corner will feature Butterflies from Heather. Everyone is welcome to learn more about this beautiful beneficial insect and walk in the tent and enjoy the live butterflies. In the event of rain, Heather cannot set up the tent, but a craft activity will be offered at the Kids’ Corner.

Entertainment will also be offered. Matt Smith will provide a mix of Irish and American folk music. Make the OVFM your Saturday morning destination. Shop, sample and enjoy the music!

The high school football season kicks off this weekend, and the market will join in the excitement by challenging fans from a different school to attend the market each week and don their team’s gear. This week our featured school is the Bellaire Big Reds.

Anyone attending the market wearing Bellaire team gear is asked to register at the market tent for a chance to win market bucks which can be spent at the market like cash.

A complete list of valley teams being challenged each week will be available at the market tent. At the close of the season, the school with the most participants will receive a prize from the OVFM.
