FOUR Wheeling Police Officers working in schools were honored at a recent State of West Virginia Prevention Resource Officer (PRO) Conference held in Morgantown.

Sgt. John Schultz, Wheeling Middle School, was named PRO of The Year. He also received the Distinguished Service Award and the Above and Beyond Service Award.

Sgt. Tom Howard, Triadelphia Middle School, received the Community Service Award; Sgt. Don Miller Bridge Street Middle School, was given the Above and Beyond Service Award and Corporal Jason Chambers, Warwood Middle School, the Community Service Award.

This marks the third year out of the last four that a Wheeling Police officer has taken home the PRO of The Year Award. “The work these officers do, the dedication they display, and the relationships they build, go beyond the ability to measure and make impacts well beyond the school yards,” said Wheeling Chief of Police Shawn Schwertfeger.”

In addition to the above awards, Sgt. Schultz and Sgt. Howard were invited to make presentations at a National Safe School Confernence in Florda in July. They presened the PRO program in West Virginia and in Wheeling to a national audience.
