New business moves into the Ohio Valley Mall
ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Amid recent store closings at the Ohio Valley Mall, there also have been signs of healthy economic activity at the popular regional shopping center as many new stores have opened.
In the past two years, the mall has seen new retailers and eateries such as Ulta Beauty, Aspen Dental, Sport Clips, ICR Supply, Buckle, BW3 and others move in and have success, while others have moved out. The newest store to open is located on Mall Ring Road outside of the main mall and is a chain retailer that sells nutrition supplements.
5 Star Nutrition will host its grand opening at 10 a.m. Saturday and is providing incentives for the public to visit the store on that day.
“We’re your typical vitamin, sports nutrition company, but we try to tailor everything to the individual. What works for you is not necessarily going to work for someone else because our bodies are different. We go through everything from a healthy meal plan to what you are already taking, to what your goals are and your activity level,” said District Manager Preston Parris.
Parris said he manages five stores , three in Ohio and two in Kentucky. He said the chain has been successful because what it does is “not so much about sales” because employees don’t work on commission and don’t sell home brands.
“We don’t sell mainstream products, and it’s much more personal. It builds a rapport and a relationship. It’s about customer service,” Parris said. “I would rather see you reach your goals than just sell you a product.”
At the grand opening on Saturday, Parris said there will be free samples, discounts and buy-two-get-one-free deals. The store offers an additional 5 percent discount for those who have served in the military, as well as for those who serve as first responders.
“A lot of us who work here are veterans, including myself. We do take care of the military and first responders,” Parris said.
Nichole Bizic, office manager for the business, grew up in Adena and has worked for 5-Star Nutrition for five years at different locations across the country. She said she has been waiting for the company to expand to Belmont County because she wanted to resettle back in the area.
“Belmont County is on the rise,” Bizic said. “Our expansion here has been in the works for some time now.”
In other mall news, construction on the new Marshall’s department store is expected to start at the beginning of April, It will occupy a portion of the space currently held by Elder-Beerman. Both K-Mart and Elder-Beerman are expected to close in the next few weeks.
“K-Mart is still liquidating and should be done by the end of March, as well as Elder-Beerman,” Ohio Valley Mall Marketing Director Candi Noble-Greathouse said. “We are excited about 5-Star Nutrition opening on Saturday. It is right next to Sport Clips, which opened in January. And Aspen Dental opened in December. We have a lot of new things going on.”
Meanwhile, American Eagle Outfitters is remodeling and updating its location in the main mall and has a temporary space for its operations next to Boscov’s. The remodeled main store is set to re-open in March.
