Belmont County August Clerks Report
ST. CLAIRSVILLE — David Trouten, clerk of courts for Belmont County, released the report of his office’s activities for August.
Trouten also wanted to take the opportunity to thank the summer help who worked for the office this year.
“We were fortunate to have two excellent interns this summer,” Trouten said. “They were able to assist in various projects in the Clerk of Court’s Office at the courthouse, as well as assisting with the usual workload.”
The interns were Kyle Timko from Ohio University and Katelyn Crum from Ohio State University.
“An internship is a win-win situation,” Trouten added, “We get excellent young workers who are eager to learn, and the kids experience hands-on, real-world experience that furthers their education.”
Both Timko and Crum have returned to pursue their studies this fall.
In addition, the office employed several other students as summer help in the off-site records department. Isaiah Green, a Kent State student, Alex Madzia, now a student at Miami University, and Kalie Drake from St Clairsville High School were great assets in straightening out and organizing old files that have been kept off-site, Trouten said.
“Because of a shortage of space in the courthouse, the records were moved off site a few years ago,” Trouten explained. “Unfortunately, in the move some records were misfiled. This has been an ongoing project for several years, but great strides were made this summer. We don’t have the manpower to work on this and still handle the day-to-day duties, so the summer help was able to accomplish quite a bit.”
The students worked under the guidance of Chief Deputy Clerk Bob Hunker.
