Man shot in Cadiz domestic dispute
CADIZ — A domestic disagreement over the weekend escalated to physical violence, leaving a Cadiz man with a serious gunshot wound and a woman in police custody.
Cadiz Police Chief Ryan McCann said the incident took place Saturday night on lower Lincoln Avenue in the village, where an argument developed into a violent confrontation.
He said a woman inside the residence in question allegedly fired several gunshots at a man, striking him several times. The male left the house, running to the property of a nearby Domino’s Pizza, where police were called to the scene.
“Officers were called for a domestic disturbance on lower Lincoln,” McCann said. “We were notified that a firearm had been discharged, and when they arrived on scene they found the male in the Domino’s yard.”
McCann said the male suffered a gunshot wound to his lower abdomen; he described the injury as “serious.” Officers on scene worked out the chain of events and made their way to the house where the incident apparently took place.
There they arrested Maggie Hanson.
The injured man was taken by medical helicopter to an unspecified hospital to be treated for his wound. His identity was not released by McCann.
McCann said officers were quick in their response to the scene, which helped in taking Hanson into custody quickly. He also offered thanks to deputies from the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department, who assisted with the situation, as well as to members of the Domino’s staff, who McCann said helped treat the injured man until emergency workers arrived on scene.
“Everyone present did a good job,” McCann said. “Luckily the e-squad got there quick and was able to get him” flown out.
