Jack Cera kicks off nursing week
BRIDGEPORT — A facility in Bridgeport helped kick off National Skilled Nursing Care Week on Monday with a visit from Ohio Rep. Jack Cera, D-Bellaire.
Cera visited the Rolling Hills Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Bridgeport, a facility that provides long term care to those who need it. Cera told residents that the facility is special to him, as his wife is in the health care business and worked at Rolling Hills years ago. He said that it was good to visit the facility again, and get the chance to speak with the residents.
“It’s a pleasure to be here today,” he said.
Cera was taken on a brief tour of the facility by Administrator Mason Bigler, who was the one who initially reached out to Cera’s office for the possibility of a visit.
Cera also presented a proclamation to Resident Council President Walter Brown, to “pledge awareness of the exceptional care that nursing homes provide to our elderly and disabled citizens,” and officially declaring May 13-19 National Skilled Nursing Care Week.
“These facilities play an important role in long term care and rehabilitation services,” Cera said, thanking the staff for their hard work.
During the week, Rolling Hills residents and staff will participate in a number of fun activities to help celebrate National Skilled Nursing Care Week.
Today will have wheelchair races between staff members. Wednesday is 1950s style dress up day. Thursday is 1960s and 70s day and will include an ice cream bar.
Friday staff and residents will have a cookout. Activities Director Jackie Polivka said that she, other staff, and residents look forward to the week, and were pleased that Cera could stop by and share in the fun for a bit.
“We were so happy he decided to stop by,” she said. “We know his schedule is pretty busy, so we’re glad he was able to make it out.”
