Brookside’s village festival is set next month

Brookside community day is June 1

BROOKSIDE — The village will kick off summer with its annual Community Day event on June 1.

Brookside Community Day takes place throughout the village, from one end to the other. Brookside Park Board Treasurer and event organizer Cora West said the event will begin at the Church of God and go throughout the community to St. Paul Church.

“We just want the kids to have fun. … The event brings everyone in the community out and a lot of businesses participate,” West said.

This is the seventh year for the Community Day event, which is organized by the Brookside Park Board.

Each business throughout the village will have different activities for residents to participate in.

∫ The Church of God will hold a silent auction at 4 p.m. The winner does not need to be present. There will be a car show from noon to 5 p.m., with judging at 3 p.m. and awards announced at 5 p.m. Restrooms and air conditioned rest areas provided.

∫ St. Paul Church will hold a yard sale inside, along with popcorn, drinks and a bake sale. There will be a craft fair on the lawn. Also, there will be a pirate show for the kids at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

∫ The Cheese Melt Food Truck will be on the site.

∫ M.C. Thomas Insurance will have hot dogs, ice cream, chips, animal-shaped balloons, face painting and music.

∫ Purple Bear Gymnastic will have an open house.

∫ Brookside Park Board will have an auction and yard sales along U.S. 40 and within the village.

∫ Bridgeport Womens’ Club will have root beer floats.

∫ Brookside Volunteer Fire Department will have an open house and activities for kids.

The all-day event takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. along U.S. 40 west of Bridgeport.
