MARTINS FERRY — The city’s annual fireworks display — Skyshow 2019 — is slated for July 5 at the Martins Ferry Schools campus on Ayers Road.

Gates to the event will open at 5 p.m. with fireworks starting at dusk. Organized by the Martins Ferry Chamber of Commerce, this is the 30th year for the event, which celebrates the anniversary of our nation’s 243rd year of independence.

Chamber Executive Director Dorothy Powell said there will be five different food trucks set up at the campus this year. For children’s entertainment there will also be inflatables by All Year Sports Galaxy and other activities such as games and a duck pond.

This year’s musical entertainment will be Taylor Jo and the Copper Creek Band, a group that played during the recent Strawberry Festival in the city. The fireworks display will be put on by American Fireworks.

There is no admission to the event, but people can purchase VIP parking passes for a cost. There is free parking available in the lots around the school buildings.

Raffle tickets also are being sold at the chamber office on Zane Highway. The drawing will be held just prior to the fireworks display. The chamber also will be selling red, white and blue balloons.

Major sponsors of the event include Belmont County Tourism Council, National Lime and Stone/NLS Paving, Unified Bank and The Times Leader.

A rain date for the event is July 6.

“It’s our 30th year. Where did the time go?” Powell said. “It’s a lot of fun to do. As long as people have a good time, that’s the main thing. And they come back.”

Chamber secretary Marian Klier said the five food trucks will be the most the event has ever hosted.

“We will have a variety of food trucks — so come up hungry,” she said.
