WOODSFIELD — A Monroe County teenager lost his life in a house fire on Saturday.

Fire Chief Mike Young said the Woodsfield Fire Department’s emergency personnel responded to a report of a house fire at 529 Old Brick Road on Saturday evening. Firefighters went to work as soon as they arrived, battling the blaze.

“Half of the house was fully involved, three rooms out of five,” Young said.

“It was easy to put out. We had it extinguished within 10 minutes — under control.”

Young added that the Lewisville Volunteer Fire Department was automatically called to render aid, but the Woodsfield first responders got quick results while dousing the single-story house.

Young said firefighters found the body of the teenager inside the structure.

He declined to release the victim’s name on Monday.

Young said the Ohio Fire Marshal’s Office is concluding an investigation of the site.

The body was transported to the Licking County coroner for examination.

“We don’t expect foul play or anything like that,” Young said.

“We feel it was some(thing) unintentional, just an accidental fire in that house.”

He added that the department has seen few fatalities when responding to fire calls.

“It hit some of my new guys pretty hard,” he said of the Saturday fatality.
