STANKO, Susan Kay Witt

STANKO, Susan Kay Witt, 58, of Shadyside, OH, passed away October 17, 2012 peacefully at the Valley Hospice Center South’s Liza’s Place in Wheeling, WV.

She was born in Bellaire, OH on December 21, 1953; the daughter of the late Albert F. Witt and June Tillson Witt Schramm.

Sue was a kindergarten teacher at the Bellaire Elementary School for 35 years, retiring in June of 2011. Among her many joys were the smiles she brought home after helping a young student learn to read and write at an early level. She was a dedicated wife, mother and special close friend to so many. She enjoyed reading, exercising, entertaining people, traveling, following her husband’s sports teams and just providing happiness to people of all abilities and all ages.

She was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Shadyside, OH, a graduate of Shadyside High School, Class of 1972 and a 1976 graduate of Kent State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary science.

In addition to her parents, her stepfather, Harvey Schramm, preceded her in death.

Surviving are her husband of 34 years, John J. Stanko. They were married on April 1, 1978, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Fr. Sartori and Fr. Lester officiating; her two children, Matt Stanko and Lauren Stanko, both of Columbus, OH; a special new family member, Joey Lamb, also of Columbus, OH; her brother, Jim (Joan) Witt of Salem, OR and her sister-in-law, Barbara Stanko, of Detroit, MI. Also, her granddogs, Elle and Max along with many special friends and many dedicated former students.

Family and friends will be received at the Bauk necht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes & Crematory, 3900 Central Ave., Shadyside, OH on Friday from 1-8 p.m. Funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Shadyside, OH with Fr. Samuel R. Saprano, as Celebrant.

Interment will be held at the Holly Memorial Gardens in Pleasant Grove, OH.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Susan Kay Stanko Memorial Scholarship Fund, which will benefit a Bellaire High School graduate or the Valley Hospice, Inc. 308 Mount Saint Joseph Road, Wheeling, WV 26003.
