RUGGIERO, Philip J., 65, of Shadyside, OH, died Thursday at his home.

He was born July 12, 1947 in Wheeling, W.Va., to John and Martha Namey Ruggiero.

Philip was a retired maintenance mechanic for Turf Care, a former coal miner with the North American Coal Corporation’s Number 4 Mine, and Consol’s Shoemaker Mine.

He was a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church in Shadyside, OH, and a 1964 graduate of the St. John Central High School in Bellaire, OH.

Phil and his wife Cindy were also foster parents to over eighty children.

He was preceded in death by his parents andbrother, John A. Ruggiero.

Surviving are his wife, Cynthia L. Gibbons Ruggiero; eight children, Michelle Marie Ruggiero Cieslewski of Fairport Harbor, OH, Richard (Laura) Murdock of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Connie Lashuk of Warwood, W.Va., Brandi Ruggiero of Wheeling, W.Va., Ashley (Keith) Ashlock of Shadyside, OH, Adam Ruggiero of Shadyside, OH, Alexis Ruggiero of Bellaire, OH, and Abby Ruggiero of Shadyside, OH; two sisters, Rose Marie (Jim) Carroll of Wheeling, W.Va., and Joanne Totterdale of St. Clairsville, OH, and his special cousin and stem cell donor, Sr. Mary Palmer of Wheeling, W.Va., eleven grandchildren and one great grandson.

Family and friends received at Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes & Crematory, 3900 Central Avenue, Shadyside, OH on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.

Funeral liturgy with Mass celebrated on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Our Lady of Lebanon Catholic Church in Wheeling, W.Va.
