KOLAKOWSKI, Joseph Lee Sr.

KOLAKOWSKI, Joseph Lee Sr., 76, of (Mozart) Wheeling, WV, lost his courageous battle with lung cancer at UPMC Shadyside in Pittsburgh on February 2nd 2013.

He is a Catholic by faith.

Joseph graduated from Union High School in 1955, during which he worked for the Wheeling News Register. He then went on to join the Army in 1955, which he served as military police, until the time he was honorably discharged.

Joseph worked at Ormet for 39 years, retiring in 1998. He also headed up Bellaire Junior Sports for some time. After retirement he went on to work at Oglebay Park, which offered him great enjoyment, and the ability to do what he did best, interact with people. During his time at Oglebay, Joe served as the tennis court maintenance supervisor, a Festival of Lights tour guide, an Oglebayfest escort, and probably his most beloved position, Santa Claus at Wilson Lodge. Joe also worked as a maintenance man for Easter Seals in Wheeling during his retirement.

Joseph was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Joe was an avid sports fan and greatly enjoyed his Saturdays at Nelson Field in Bellaire to cheer on his Big Reds, his Ohio State Buckeyes, and his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers.

Joe was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Kolakowski (Crow); his sister, Dolores Howard; and his parents, Anthony and Catherine Kolakowski.

He is survived by his wife, Delores Kolakowski (Mills) of 20 years; his sister, Anna Marie and her husband, Dennis Lawther; his brother, Anthony and his wife, Jenny Lou Kolakowski; his five children, Michelle and her husband, Randy Esaw, Joseph Kolakowski Jr., Michael and his wife, Lea Kolakowski, Margie and her husband, Jason Milton, and Adam and his wife, Stacey Campbell. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jeffery and his wife, Shannon Marlin, Leeann and her partner, Whitney Naumann, Ryan Vicker, Devyn Stidd, Randy Esaw Jr., Sheeanna Kolakowski, Anthony Kolakowski, Shiann Kolakowski, Brian Campbell, Tres Campbell, Gia Campbell, Laykin Milton, and Aiden Milton. His four great-grandchildren are Trenton, Brenton, Makeyla, and Kendyl. Many nieces and nephews also survive him.

Friends will be received on Wednesday, February 6, 2013, from 1-8 p.m. at the Altmeyer Funeral Home 154 Kruger St., Elm Grove.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Alphonsus Catholic Church with the Fr. Frank O’Kruta as celebrant and the Father Dennis Schuelkens, as con celebrant.

Entombment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Pleasant Grove, OH.

Vigil services will be conducted on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
