WALKER, Bernard Newell

WALKER, Bernard Newell “Bow Wow” 69, of Bellaire, Ohio died Friday, May 3, 2013 surrounded by his wife, daughters and son-in-law at the Ohio State Medical Center East, Columbus, Ohio.

He was born July 18, 1943 in Bellaire, Ohio a son of the late Willard Newell and Viola Crall Walker.

Bernie was retired Store Manager from Kroger company after 42 1/2 years of service. He was currently employed by the Airport Limousine Service of Wheeling. He was a member of the Bellaire Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon and Elder.

He was a 1961 graduate of Bellaire High School, past Bellaire Board of Education member. He was active in the BHS Alumni Association and a past alumni achievement award recipient. He was an Army Veteran, a member of the American Legion Post #52 Bellaire, former Garibaldi Lodge member Benwood, WV, and a former Bellaire Lion’s Club member. He enjoyed golfing, taking trips with his wife and cutting grass with his grandson.

Surviving is his loving wife of 32 years Shauna Ray Walker; two daughters, Courtney (Chuck) Clark of Shadyside and Ashley Walker of Bellaire; grandson, Codin Newell Walker of Bellaire; brother, Ernest (Terry) Walker of Shadyside; aunt, Vera Bliss of Wheeling; father and mother-in-law, John and Beverly Snider Ray of Bellaire; brother and sister-in-laws, several nieces and nephews and his dog “Lucky”

Family and friends will be received Monday May 6, 2013 from 2-8 p.m. at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Home and Crematory 441 37th Street Bellaire, Ohio where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday with Pastor Pete Walburn officiating.

Interment in Greenwood Cemetery Bellaire, Ohio.

Belmont County Council of the American Legion will conduct services at the funeral home Tuesday at 10:45 a.m.

In honoring Bernie’s request, in lieu of flowers or gifts, that memorial contributions are made to Bernard Walker Memorial Fund, c/o The Belmont Savings Bank, 3301 Guernsey Street, Bellaire, Ohio 43906.

Bernie wanted to see that his grandson went to college.
