DeFILIPPO, Mayor John, “Jake” Sr., 77, of Yorkville, Ohio, died Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at Wheeling Hospital in Wheeling, WV.

He was born on June 2, 1936 in Yorkville, Ohio, to the late Charles and Angeline (Paoletta) DeFilippo.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sister, Marge Emerson.

He was a member of St. Lucy’s Catholic Church, retired director of the laboratory at the East Ohio Regional Hospital.

He served on the board of public affairs, council member for many years and Mayor of the Village of Yorkville for 26 years; a member of the Yorkville Fire Department; a member of the American/Italian club of Yorkville and a graduate of Yorkville High school (1954).

John was a devoted and loving son, husband, father, brother and grandfather, who served the village of Yorkville with great pride.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joyce (Provenzano) DeFilippo; children, Charles DeFilippo, of St. Clairsville, Dr. John (Lisa) DeFilippo, of St. Clairsville, Doug (Melissa) DeFilippo, of Columbus, OH; a daughter, Rebecca (Grant) Allen, of Columbus, OH; 10 grand children, Lauren, Erica, Zachary, Anna, John Luke, Anthony, Dominic, Jacob, Elise and Landon Allen; a brother, Vincent (Lorena) DeFilippo, of Vermillion, OH and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received to pay tribute to John and celebrate his life on Sunday, July 14th from 1-8 p.m. at the Borkoski Funeral Home, Tiltonsville, OH. A wake service will be conducted at 1:15 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. from St. Joseph Catholic Church with Monsignor Gene Mullett as celebrant.

Burial will follow at Upland Cemetery, Yorkville.
