BURKHART, Lawrence, 90, of Shadyside, OH, died Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at Liza’s Place, Wheeling, WV.
He was born March 28, 1923 in Beallsville, OH, a son of the late Phillip and Eva Burkhart.
Lawrence was a retired employee of Wheeling- Pittsburgh Steel Corporations, Benwood Plant with 47 years of service, a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a U.S. Army Veteran of the D-Day invasion arriving in the first wave of troops at Omaha Beach serving in the 147th Engineering C Battalion. He enjoyed hunting and woodworking.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and five brothers.
Surviving is his loving wife, Irene Bilkovic Burkhart of Shadyside; a daughter, Lori (Scott) Hudson of Bellaire, OH; two grandchildren, Logan and Cody Hudson; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Home & Crematory, 3900 Central Avenue, Shadyside with a vigil service at 7:45 p.m.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Fr. Samuel R. Saprano as celebrant. Burial at the convenience of the family.
Belmont County Council of American Legions will conduct full Military Honors at 7:15 p.m. at the funeral home.
