PHILLIPS, Emma Jo, 79, of St. Clairsville, OH died Saturday, September 14, 2013, at Ohio Valley Medical Center, Wheeling, WV.

She was born July 6, 1934 in Bellaire, OH, a daughter of the late Elias John and Kathryn Belle Keyser Lambros.

Emma Jo was a retired Middle School Teacher of the St. Clairsville-Richland School District and a member of Thoburn United Methodist Church and STRS.

She was a 1956 graduate of Muskingum University, a Jennings Scholar of Ohio University. She began her teaching career at Shadyside and remained there for 10 years. She then moved to St. Clairsville and resumed teaching second grade, all subjects, then fifth grade music, language arts, reading, physical education and computer keyboarding and gifted and talented children for two years spanning a career of over 31 years. After her retirement from teaching, she worked for JC Penny and Macy’s in the fine jewelery department.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a nephew, John Lambros.

Surviving is her husband, Charles L. “Chuck” Phillips of St. Clairsville; a son, John (Vera) Phillips of Nashville, TN; a brother, Lewis John (Delia) Lambros of Charlotte, NC; a sister-in law, Linda Phillips; three nieces, Cynthia Speer, Kirsten Long and Sarah Jean Corrigan; a nephew, Patrick Phillips.

Friends will be received Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Beck-Altmeyer Funeral Home & Crematory 204 West Main St., St. Clairsville where services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. with Rev. Wayne Ickes officiating. Burial follows in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, OH.
