SKORICH, Peter “Pete” Raymond Jr., 83, of LaPalma, CA, passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2013.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Palma Skorich.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carma; daughter, Yvonne; and grandchildren, Erik and Blake. Also survived by his siblings, Ron, Richard and Gloria.

Pete excelled in athletics from an early age. In high school he lettered in both football and baseball and was elected captain of the Bellaire Red’s Cinder team in 1946. That same year he ran a record breaking 4:37 mile. After graduating as senior class president in 1947, he was drafted into the United States Army where he served most notably as a paratrooper with the distinguished 82nd Airborne Division, ending service at the rank of Sergeant.

He then attended Michigan State University where he played football as a walk-on, eventually earning a scholarship that was later lost due to an injury sustained on the field. He then transferred to Long Beach State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science with a 3.9 GPA and later earned a Master of Science from the University of Redland with a 3.99 GPA.

After graduation he embarked upon a career in the new world of information systems and computers until his retirement as a Director of Information Systems.

Pete will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Pete also has friends in California where he was loved, Pete was a friend, mentor. He was a great man he never complained about anything, I never saw or noticed bitterness in him. If the weather was hot he was grateful for the sun, I can hear him humming a song.

Funeral liturgy will be held on Sunday, October 27th at 1 p.m. at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Bellaire, OH. Interment in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a memorial contribution be made in Pete’s name to the Bellaire High School Alumni Class of ’47.
