KEMP, Richard Merle, 73, of Barnesville, Ohio, passed away Sunday afternoon, December 29, 2013, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born October 16, 1940 in Belmont to the late George Aaron and Lucille J. (Shultz) Kemp.
Mr. Kemp was a 1959 graduate of Belmont High School. He was the owner and founder of Kemp Insurance, co-owner of Convenient Food Mart in Barnesville and current owner of Kemp Storage.
Richard was a former school board member, former Somerset township trustee and a member and trustee of the Somerton United Methodist Church. He was voted “Grandfather of the Year” in 2000. He was always supportive in his grandchildren’s activities. Richard was very active in the masonic order having membership in the Barnesville Friendship Lodge No. 89 and was currently Marshall for the Barnesville Chapter No. 206 Order of the Eastern Star of which he held in high regard. He was also a member of the Cambridge Scottish Rite.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley A. (Hagan) Kemp; infant sisters, Ruth Anne Kemp and Loretta Sue Kemp; brothers-in-law, Paul Mako and Roger Jenewein.
He is survived by his daughters, Kimberly Kaye (Jewett) Stephen of Barnesville, Kathy Lynne (Ronnie) Stephen of Barnesville, Beth Anne (Dan) McGee of Crittenden, Kentucky; brothers and sisters, Kenneth (Lois) Kemp of Bethesda, Mary (David) Barnes of St. Clairsville, James (Nancy) Kemp of West Salem, Robert (Betty) Kemp of Belmont, Melvin (Judy) Kemp of Bethesda, Shirley Jenewein of Bethesda, Sandra (Fred) Wees of Belmont, Barbara (Fred) Wright of Bethesda, Patricia (Bob) Falconer of Fox River Grove, Illinois, Dan (Lisa) Kemp of St. Cloud, Florida, Penny (John) Morris of Bethesda, Steve (Sherry) Kemp of Beallsville, and Cindy Mako of Okahumpka, Florida; two sisters-in-law, Vivian Stewart and Nancy Young; five grandchildren, Hannah Nicole Stephen-Betts, Chelsey Lynne Jackson, Bryson Kemp Stephen, Emily Shiranne McGee, Ireland Daniele McGee; and four great- grandchildren, Ella Reghan Betts, Hadley Hagan Betts (Buttercup), Cash Stephen Jackson, and Coy William Jackson; his long time companion, Nancy J. McLaughlin; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 1, 2014 from 2-8 p.m. and again on Thursday, January 2, 2014 from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m. with Rev. Jean Cooper and Pastor Rodney West officiating at Campbell- Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 North Chestnut Street, Barnesville, OH.
Burial will follow at Somerton Cemetery in Somerton, OH. Masonic Service will be conducted by Friendship Lodge No. 89 F&AM on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. OES No. 206 Barnesville will conduct services on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Nancy J. McLaughlin, 60856 Somerton Hwy., Barnesville, OH 43713, to be used at the families wishes for the Somerton United Methodist Church.
