MOCZEK, Paul Robert

MOCZEK, Paul Robert, 77, of Martins Ferry, OH, passed away at noon on Monday, December 30, 2013 at Wheeling Hospital.

Born July 1, 1936 in Benwood, WV, to Stanley and Alice Lowe Moczek, Paul was a 1955 graduate of St. John Central High School in Bellaire, OH. There he met and fell in love with his surviving wife of 56 years, Shirley Ann (Tankovits) Moczek. Together they raised four daughters: Paula (Marty) Spanner of Bethel Park, PA, Jayme (Perry) Nardo of Shadyside, OH, JoEllen (Louis) Pytlak of Glen Dale, WV, and Dawn (Todd) Zelczak of Cincinnati, OH.

Paul and Shirley are loving and proud grandparents to their baker’s dozen: Marty (Sarah) Spanner, Matthew Nardo, Benjamin (Alison) Spanner, Bryan Nardo, Kaitlyn Pytlak, Natalie Spanner, Kyle Pytlak, Daniel Spanner, Hannah Pytlak, Luke Nardo, Riley Zelczak, Steven Zelczak, and Audrey Zelczak.

In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by brothers Harry, Tom and Mike, his sister Bette and his two brothers-in-law, Joe “Sonny” Tankovits and Bill Collignon.

Surviving are Paul’s sisters, Nancy (Tony) Anthony and Rosalie (Bob) Gillespie, his brother Pat (Clara Lou) Moczek and his sisters-in-law: Marlene (Bill) Collignon, Henrietta (Harry) Moczek, Helen (Mike) Moczek and Jean (Joe) Tankovits – as well as several special nieces and nephews.

Paul worked at Bayer Corporation (Mobay) for over 30 years as the supervisor of drafting. Paul took great joy in being an active member of St. Mary’s Parish and served as the Parish Council president for several years. Paul and his wife Shirley helped rekindle the St. Mary’s chapter of the Infant of Prague Society in 1988 and each summer’s annual novena to the Infant Jesus brings hope to hundreds of Catholics in the Ohio Valley. Paul was known by many as a man of strong faith, highly devoted to the Blessed Mother. He is also affectionately remembered by his family as a gifted singer, talented carpenter, avid photographer, ingenious trickster and entertaining “Pumpkin Sucker” storyteller.
