SMELKO, Stella

SMELKO, Stella M., 81, of Bellaire, Ohio died Thursday, January 23, 2014 at her home.

She was born December 28, 1932 in Bellaire, Ohio a daughter of the late Benny and Mary Bonfini Balestra.

Stella was a former employee of the Louis Marx Toy Factory, Wheeling Machine, LPC and Dairy Mart. She was a member of the St. John Catholic Church and the church choir and a graduate of the St. John Central High School.

Stella was extremely involved with her children, grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. She loved to crochet and was currently taking piano lessons at the C. A. House.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel J. Smelko on January 12, 2005; one brother, Benny Balestra and three sisters, Flora Mae Balestra, Angela Vingia and Bernadine Frye and one great- granddaughter Meagen Smelkko.

Surviving are her children, Tony (Treva) Smelko of Belmont, Ohio, Cecelia (Joe) Marchisio of Maynard, Ohio and Joan (Vern) Gallaher of Jacobsburg, Ohio and one brother, Valentino Balestra of Piketon, Ohio. Also eight grandchildren, 13 great- grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes & Crematory 441 37th Street Bellaire, Ohio on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 11 am at the St. John Catholic Church in Bellaire, Ohio with Fr. Daniel Heusel, as celebrant. Interment in the linwood Cemetery in Blaine, Ohio.

Vigil services will be held on Sunday at 7:45 p.m.
