STOPERA, Walter, 91, of Diamond St., Rayland, OH, died Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at his home.
He was born February 20, 1922 in Avela, PA, son of the late Andrew and Anastasia Sudan Stopera.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Janie Stopera; grandson, Shaun Taylor; brothers, Richard and Tony Stopera; four sisters, Genevie Fithen, Emily Hail, Mary Hill, and Sophia Scheele.
Walter was a WW II U.S. Navy veteran serving in Normandy. He retired from Nickles Bakery in Martins Ferry, OH; owner of the former Walt’s Lounge in Rayland, OH; Christian by faith; lifetime member of the V.F. W. Post 4811 of Yorkville, OH; former president of the Warren Township Lions Club; spent many wonder summers camping at Seneca Lake; enjoyed piloting his plane, and loved boating.
He is survived by his wife, Darla Jean Hossman Stopera; son Walter M. Stopera of Cadiz, OH; daughter, Neva L. (Taylor) Rodgers of Painesville, OH; brother-in-law, Rick (Cindy) Hossman of Pennsylvania; sister, Lillian (Bob) Coldar of Holt, MI; eight grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
Friends may be received to pay tribute to Walt and celebrate his life Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Borkoski Funeral Home, Tiltonsville, OH.
Friends will also be received from 11 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens in Pleasant Grove, OH.
