FLANAGAN, Betty Lou, 73, of Bellaire, OH, passed away Sunday, February 23, 2014 at the Ohio State University’s Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, OH.

Betty was born December 4, 1940 in Wheeling, WV, a daughter of the late Michael and Rose Ghiz Helal.

She was a graduate of Bridgeport High School and the Scott’s School of Cosmetology. She was a beautician for over 28 years and the owner of the former DeSiree Hair Salon.

Betty was an active member of the St. John Catholic Church in Bellaire. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and friends. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend. She will be forever loved and missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, George Helal and her beloved companion, Jack Flanagan.

Betty is survived by one brother, Ed (Pat) Helal of Ashland, three sons, Kevin Flanagan and Sean Flanagan both of Bellaire and Shannon (Jeannie) Flanagan of Columbus’ one daughter, Melissa McGilton of Bellaire; stepdaughters, Cathy (Harry) Mowder of St. Clairsville, Cindy Flanagan of Shadyside and Crystal Santone of New Jersey. Also eight grandchildren, Kyle, Haygen, Ciaran, Rowan, Kane, Brody, J.D. and Kenna as well as several nieces and nephews.

There will be no visitation. Funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated on Friday, February 28, 2014 at 2 p.m. at the St. John Catholic Church with Fr. Daniel Heusel, as Celebrant.

Interment in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Bellaire.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. John Grade School.
