ERCHAK, John, 90, of Beallsville, died Sunday, March 2 in Barnesville Hospital.

He was born January 9, 1924 near Shadyside, a son of the late Michael and Mary Spontak Erchak.

John was a member of the former Immaculate Conception Catholic Church near Ozark, and a charter member of both the Beallsville Sportsman’s Club and American Legion Post 768.

He was a US Army veteran of WWII, serving as a medic on a hospital transport ship traveling across the Atlantic; he was also a retired rural mail carrier for the US Postal Service.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a son, Mark Erchak; three brothers, Michael, Charles, and Andrew Erchak; also three sisters, Betty Erchak, Ann Roll, and Mary Sullivan.

Surviving are two sons, John F. Erchak of Stoutsville and Joseph Erchak of Beallsville; two daughters, Bridget (Ray) Swallie of Beallsville and Babbette (Steve) McDougal of McArthur; one brother, Robert Erchak of Waynesboro, PA; three sisters, Helen Velko of Hudson, FL, Shirley Holland and Sylvia Peters, both of Rittman; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, with one great-grandchild to arrive in May.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the Harper Funeral Home, Beallsville where funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m.. Interment will follow in Beallsville Cemetery. Military honors by American Legion Post 768 will be conducted at the funeral home prior to the funeral service.
