SMUTNEY, Scott A., 35, of Bridgeport, OH, formerly of Avella died at 9 p.m. on Friday, March 7, 2014 in the Washington Hospital surrounded by family.
He was born on January 19, 1979 in Washington Hospital, son of Paul “Tony” and Susan Olenick Smutney of Avella.
Mr. Smutney was a 1997 graduate of Avella High School and he received his Associates Degree in Auto Mechanics from Rosedale Technical Institute of Pittsburgh.
He was employed by Langeloth Metallurgical Company, LLC as a mechanic for the past 10 years.
Mr. Smutney enjoyed his dog, Sarah, working on his family farm and his tractors.
He had lived in Bridgeport, OH since 2010.
On May 22, 2010, he married Pam L. Ferrell, who survives.
Also surviving Mr. Smutney are: his twin children, William Paul Smutney and Eva Rose Smutney; a brother, Matthew Smutney, of Avella; a nephew, Christian Smutney; his maternal grandmother, Veronica Olenick of Avella; mother and father-in-law, William and Barbara Ferrell, of Belmont, OH; a brother-in-law, Dale Ferrell of Cleveland, OH; three great-aunts, Peggy Jean Myers, Julia Kubacka and Susan Sprando; several aunts and uncles; and many cousins.
Preceding him in death are: his paternal grand parents, Joseph and Eleen Smutney; maternal grandfather, George Olenick.
Friends and family will be received from 2-8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11 in the Jerome A. Stefkovich Funeral Home, Inc., located at 18 Campbell St., Avella, PA 15312, where Panachida will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 12, followed by Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church – Byzantine Rite, Avella, with Fr. Edward Lucas officiating. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Avella.
