KIMMEL, Sylvester Henry

KIMMEL, Sylvester Henry, 89, of St. Clairsville, OH, was finally reunited with the love of his life, Evelyn, on Wednesday, April, 23 2014.

He was born May 27, 1924 in Pittsburgh, PA, a son of the late Sylvester J. Kimmel and Mary Probst Kimmel.

He was a retired employee of Blaw-Knox Foundry in Wheeling, WV, a member and former choir member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Clairsville, an Army veteran of WWII, past commander and chaplain of VFW Post 5356 in St. Clairsville, and a former member of the Knights of Columbus and Fraternal Order of Eagles in Bridgeport, OH.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn J. Sweepe Kimmel; and a son, Jeffrey T. Kimmel.

Surviving are four children, Carol J. (John) Phillips of Bellaire, OH, Sally L. (Skip) Butterworth of Bellaire, OH, Mary Ann (Bryan Casey) Corrigan of Lomita, CA, and Mark R. (Tammy) Kimmel of Shelby, OH; a sister, Mary McCafferty of Pittsburgh, PA; grandchildren, Jeff, Jeremy, Alice, Megan, Tyler, Jason, Ben, and Maggie; great- granddaughter, Sydney, and soon to be great-grandson.

Friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Friday from 4-8 p.m.

A Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Clairsville on Saturday at 1 p.m. with Father Michael Gossett the celebrant.

Entombment follows in Holly Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Pleasant Grove, OH. A vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.

Military Honors will be provided by the Belmont County VFW Honor Guard on Saturday at Holly Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made to the military veteran’s charity of the donor’s choice.
