ROBERT STEFFL

Robert Gerald Steffl, 75, of Jefferson City, passed away Tuesday May 13, 2014 at Lenoir Woods, Columbia.

He was born October 31, 1938 in Dillonvale, OH, the son of Jerry Steffl and Rose (Blahovec) Steffl.

On September 10, 1960 he was united in marriage to Gerry Jeskey, who preceded him in death on April 22, 2012.

Robert was a 1956 graduate of Dillonvale High School and a 1961 graduate of The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in physical therapy. Robert was a Licensed Physical Therapist working in California, Illinois, and Missouri.

He was a member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph where he sang in the choir and served as a lector. He was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the American Physical Therapy Association and The Ohio State University Alumni Association.

He played the saxophone in several dance bands and he was an avid Buckeye and St. Louis Cardinals fan. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. His favorite holiday was Halloween, his birthday. He loved to dress up, decorate his home and give candy to all the trick or treaters.

Along with his wife Gerry, he was preceded in death by his parents; one brother-in-law: Theron “Teeney” Merkel.

Robert is survived by his two children: Tim Steffl and wife, Paige of Naperville, Illinois; Leanne Kelley and husband, Dr. James of Danville, Illinois; five grandchildren: Kate Kelley, Patrick Kelley, Andrew Kelley, Alexa Steffl, Cole Steffl; one sister: June Delores (Steffl) Merkel of North Port, Florida and several nieces and nephews. Additionally, Robert will be deeply missed by Martie Dunn who was Robert’s co- worker, friend, and final care- giver.

Friends will be received from 5-7 p.m. Friday, May 16, 2014 at Houser-Millard Funeral Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Saturday, May 17, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the Cathedral of St. Joseph with Msgr. Robert A. Kurwicki, officiating.

Entombment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
