Nelson P. Cameron, 90, of New Athens, died Thursday, July 3, 2014, at his home. A loving father and grandfather, he enjoyed boating and sporting events, 4-H and scouting activities in which his grandchildren were involved.
He was born in Fairpoint, Ohio, January 24, 1924, a son of the late Victor and Abigail (LeMasters) Cameron Sr.
Nelson retired from Consolidation Coal Co. after 44 years. During his employment with Consol he operated the Silver Spade. He was a Protestant by faith , an Army Veteran of WWII, and a member of the Flushing American Legion Post 366.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, was his wife, Virginia Williams Cameron; two daughters, Mickey Dunlap and Mary (Snook) Brandon; a brother, Victor Cameron Jr. and a sister, Mary Ornouski. Surviving are his son Donald L. (Linda)Cameron and his daughter Judy (Mark) Blon, all of Holloway; a sister, Armette Contrucci; seven grandchildren: Nick, Natalie, Zach, Tina, Trina, Tanya and Richie; several great and great, great grandchildren.
Friends will be received at Warren Funeral Home, Flushing, Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., where services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 7, with Pastor Pete Tuchek officiating. Burial will follow in Longview Cemetery, New Athens, with full military honors.
American Legion services will be held at the funeral home Sunday evening at 7 p.m.
