Frieda VanCuren Holmes, 97, of Flushing, went to be with the Lord on August 1, 2014, at Forest Hill Retirement Center, St. Clairsville.
She was born January 31, 1917, in Flushing, a daughter of the late Talmage and Bertha Smith VanCuren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Warren VanCuren and Talmage Theodore “Ted” VanCuren; sister-in-law, Catherine Young VanCuren and niece, Pride VanCuren Anderson as well as nephew, Theodore “Teddy” VanCuren.
She is survived by her two sons, Dale (Judy) Holmes of Flushing, and Harold T. Holmes (Shawn Miller) of Wheeling, WV; three grandsons, Matthew (Melissa) Holmes of Powell, OH, Jason (Adrienne) Holmes of Brewster, NY, and Justin (Dawn Wakelin) Holmes of Plano, TX; and great- grandchildren, Brenna, Lilly, Marin, and Marsden; nieces, Gay VanCuren Davis and Faith VanCuren Goad of Carlsbad, New Mexico; many cousins and friends.
Frieda was a proud member of the Class of Flushing High School 1936. Frieda managed VJ Binns’ General Store in Uniontown, Ohio during WW II. She retired from Hillandale Farms, Inc. with 42 years of service and from Avon Products with 63 years of service. She was recently honored by Avon Products, Inc. for submitting 999 orders.
She was Sunday School Superintendent of the Children’s Department of the Flushing United Methodist Church for over 60 years where she was a lifelong, dedicated member. She was also a member of the Flushing Garden Club.
She loved her Lord, her family, her church and her friends.
Friends and family will be received at the Warren Funeral Home, 341 High St. Flushing, Ohio, on Monday, August 4, 2014 from 4-8 p.m. and on Tuesday, August 5, from 11 a.m. until time of service at 1 p.m. at the Flushing United Methodist Church. Pastor Dave Powell will officiate.
