Jane Ann (Wacker) Ryan, 79, of Dellroy, OH, passed away peacefully in Aultman Hospital March 26, 2018, with her sister, Mary Margaret, by her side.
She was born Aug. 24, 1938, in Martins Ferry, OH, to the late John Wacker and Adelaide Wacker Osmianski. She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister; and a brother.
She is survived by her two sisters, Kathryn Ruschak of Powhatan Point, OH, and Mary Margaret (Don) Cairns of Dellroy, OH; nephew, Trevor (Gabriela) Porter and sons, Alexander and Colin, of Uniontown, OH; niece, Erin (Kevin) Krieg and children, Cooper and Kensey, of Cincinnati, OH; and husband, Aza Ryan of Los Angeles, CA.
Jane graduated from the Ruth Brant School of Nursing in Martins Ferry, OH, in 1959 as class valedictorian. She received her BSN from California State in 1968 and her MN in nursing from UCLA in 1972. In 1976, she became assistant director of adult nursing service at the UCLA NeuroPsychiatric Institute, which is a position she held until her retirement in 1992. She also obtained the legal nurse consultant certification, and she was asked to work for the U.S. Justice Department as an expert psychiatric nurse consultant until 2006.
She was a member of Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honorary Society, and she was past-president of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association, where she visited all 50 state chapters during her tenure.
Jane was a lifelong mentor and friend to all she met. She led a very rich and rewarding personal and professional life.
The family will have a private memorial service at a later date.
