Mary Esther Fulton, age 79, a longtime resident of St. Clairsville, Ohio and recently of Carol Stream, Illinois, went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 4, 2019, peacefully at home. She was born April 8, 1939 in Dilles Bottom, Ohio to Lester Lindsey and Genevieve Marie (Moore) Nice.

Mary grew up in Dilles Bottom until her mother’s death when she moved to Barnesville, OH. She made her home in Barnesville with her brothers and sister before moving to St. Clairsville where she attended high school and graduated in 1957. During that time and along with her best friends, she met Robert David Fulton of Lafferty, her provider, protector and the love of her life, and they were married on February 22, 1958. They raised a family in Martins Ferry, OH and attended the First Christian Church of Martins Ferry. They were active church members and loved raising their family in faith. She also cared deeply for her younger siblings and took them in until they became adults.

While raising her children, Mary went to Belmont Technical College to become a nurse. She later pursued advance studies in pharmacology. She worked with seniors at nursing homes and in private care, including care of her own family members and her husband. Mary loved her line of work and continued to share stories of how each touched her deeply long after retirement.

Mary enjoyed working with her hands, sewing, crafting, cooking, furniture upholstery, and working with her husband on home repairs and remodeling. She lovingly prepared many meals for her family, creating a legacy around the table, including a full Sunday dinner each week following church. She loved spending time with her family and was open to any adventure they proposed to her. In her latter years, she was a pivotel in serving impoverished children worldwide and she traveled to each coast with her family to support and celebrate the work that was being done. More than anything, her Christian faith was central to her life and she was quick to talk about her it. Listening to her favorite gospel songs and reading her Bible were some of her favorite ways to express her faith.

She was a courageous, strong and joyful woman. No mountain was too tall for her climb. She knew that her strength, optimism, and unending faith would carry her through life. And she loved a good joke that would make her laugh deeply.

She is survived by her children, Robert D. (Wanda) Fulton Jr. of Florida, Frances Marie (Stephen) Spear of Carol Stream, IL, and William E. (Becky) Fulton of Ohio, her grandchildren, Zachary (Ashley) Spear, Chelsea Spear, Melissa Fulton, Stephanie Fulton, step-grandchildren Jeff Jalbrzikowski, Julie Jalbrzikowski and Jessica (Conner) Coyne and three step great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, many of whom were as much her own children.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert David in 2011, her siblings, Charles “Alfred”, Robert “Bill”, Margaret, Danny, John and Patrick and her parents.

A visitation will be held Friday, January 11 at 11:30 a.m. with a service to follow at 1pm. at Toothman Funeral Home, 141 South Marietta Street, St. Clairsville, Ohio 43950, (740) 695-1905. Interment will follow at St Clairsville Union Cemetery in St Clairsville, Ohio.
