Henry O’Neil Gallagher, 96, of Barnesville, OH, died peacefully at his home on June 6, 2019.
A devoted husband and father, Henry is survived by his cherished wife of 61 years, Georgia McCort Gallagher; his children, Linda (Armond) Olsen of Plainville, MA, Patricia (Alan) Logan of Cambridge, OH, Susan (Russ) Howell of Millersburg, OH, and Scott (Lyn) Gallagher of Barnesville, OH; his beloved grandchildren, Olivia and Ajae Olsen, Nicholas (Destinee) and Cameron Logan, Sinjon, Declan, and Caelan Howell, Ryan (Chrissy) and Kyle Gallagher, and Tiffany (Zach) Delman; and his precious great-grandchildren, Ryder and Parker Gallagher and Leni Delman.
Born to William and Elizabeth Matilda Ulrich Gallagher on December 13, 1922, in Quaker City, OH, Henry was preceded in death by his seven siblings, Grace Gallagher Pierce, Paul Gallagher, Emma Gallagher Miller, Jacob Gallagher, Herman Gallagher, Denis Gallagher and John Gallagher.
Henry had a strong work ethic and co-owned East End Garage, Inc., Barnesville, for 48 years. He also proudly served the village of Barnesville, as its Mayor, from 2000-2004.
Henry enjoyed working with the public and was an honest and fair businessman. He was a founding member of the Barnesville Pumpkin Festival, delivered Meals on Wheels to area residents for 17 years, and he and Georgia were recognized in 1979, as Barnesville’s Citizens of the Year.
A Navy veteran of World War II, Henry was proud that he and four of his brothers served our country during that important, historical period. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, DAV, and American Legion. Henry belonged to the Barnesville Area Education Foundation, the Watts Center, and the Belmont County Historical Society. He was a 40 year member of the Ohio Auxiliary Highway Patrol, a 63 year member of Elks Lodge #1699, and a 65 year member of the Belmont Grange.
A member of the Church of the Assumption in Barnesville, Henry was a charter member of the parish’s Knights of Columbus Council #5250 and a member of the Fr. Francis Treddle Assembly of the 4thDegree. He served in various leadership capacities throughout the years, including; Grand Knight, District Deputy, Faithful Navigator, and District Master.
Henry loved his family more than anything, and he and Georgia hosted numerous gatherings with plenty of home cooked food. He took great pride in his garden, and his bounteous potato crops earned him the nickname “Pa Tater.” Henry was a man of few words, but abundant faith, integrity, generosity, and kindness. He will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 10, from 4-8 p.m., at Assumption B.V.M. Catholic Church, 306 W. Main Street, Barnesville.
A Knights of Columbus service and rosary will begin at 7:30 p.m., followed by a prayer service with Fr. Dave Cornett, beginning at 7:45 p.m.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, June 11, at 10 a.m., at Assumption Church, with a tribute to Henry, beginning at 9:45 a.m. Burial with full Military Honors will be held at the Catholic Cemetery in Barnesville.
