Octoberfest unfolds today at?Sally?Buffalo

THE CADIZ Business Association is sponsoring its annual Octoberfest today at Sally Buffalo Park.

Activities include a breakfast served by the Cadiz Lions Club from 8-11 a.m. with a pancake eating contest set for 9 a.m.

Crafters will display their wares from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a car show to be held at the same time.

The Lil Hustlers tractor club will also have their machines on display throughout the day as well as free inflatable rides, sponsored by Frontier Communications, will by available for children. From 4-7 p.m., the local band Kranken will play for the crowd’s entertainment.

All activities will center around Wallace Lodge.

On Sunday, the fourth annual Lucas D. Sedgmer Memorial Scholarship5K run/walk will be held with a start time of 1 p.m.

Shirts will be awarded to the first 75 individuals signing up for the race and trophies and medals are to be awarded to the top athletes in several categories. In addition, runners and walkers will enjoying light refreshments at the conclusion of the event.

A kids’ dash will be held at 12:30 p.m. and new to this year’s event is the opportunity for those not wishing to participate in the 5K to Lap the Lake and support this scholarship program which benefits local high school graduates.

In addition, other activities will include a 50/50 raffle, door-prize raffle and bake sale.

A FALL Food Fest, Chili Cook Off, Pie Baking Contest, rib cook off, kiddie tractor pull, corn hole tournament, craft fair, games and activities, will be held Saturday, Oct. 8, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Old Lakeland High School parking lot, Rt. 800, in Freeport. The event is being sponsored by the Freeport Market, Lakeland Democrat Women and Select-O-Sep, LLC. Deadline for entry Oct. 1.

A POKER RUN, will be held Saturday, Oct. 8, beginning at the John Stephenson Gymnasium at the Harrison Central High School in Cadiz to benefit the Harcatus Food Pantry.

Registration begins at 12 p.m. with the first bike out at 1 p.m. Last bike in at 4 p.m. Cost is $15 driver, $10 passenger, which includes a meal featuring chicken and ham loaf. The meal will be served from 4-7 p.m. Dinners are also available to the general public for $10. Sponsored by Harcatus Policy Advisory Committee, Vultures Motorcycle Club, Hopedale American Legion Riders and Stuff with Attitude.

A CHICKEN AND Ham Dinner, has been scheduled for Oct. 8, from 12-6 p.m. at the Tippecanoe United Methodist Church, Rt. 800. Love offering.

ON OCT. 8 a Mud Bog event will be held at the Harrison County Fairgrounds in Cadiz. Registration is at 11 a.m. and the event will kick-off at noon.

THE MEMBERS of the Jewett Volunteer Fire Department will be busy on Oct. 9 when they offer some of the best food around at their chicken and baked steak dinner.

Service runs from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and the meal includes vegetables, salad, bread, dessert and beverages. Cost is $8 for adult portions and $4 for children’s meals.

THE MOOREFIELD Volunteer Fire Department will also hold at chicken barbecue on Oct. 9 beginning at 11 a.m.

The meal will be served at the Piedmont Fire Hall and features1/2 barbecue chicken, potato, green beans and roll for only $8 per person. Homemade pies and drinks available. Dine in or carry out.

SPAGHETTI DINNER to benefit for the family of Jimmy Cameron, the Harrison Central High School student who died after a brief illness, will be held Sunday, Oct. 9,

11 a.m.- 7 p.m. at the Cadiz EMS Building.

A Love offering will be taken and T-shirts will be sold along with other fundraising items.
